Billing FAQ

Q:  Which insurance plans does UMFC accept?

A:  We accept the lowest copay listed on your card for the following insurance plans:  Aetna, Blue Cross and Blue Shield, Carolina Steel Corporation, Cigna, First Health/Coventry Health Care, Great West Healthcare, MAMSI, Alliance PPO, Medcost Preferred, Medcost Primenet, PHCS, Primary Physician Care, Secure Horizons, State Health Plan, United Healthcare, and Wellpath.

Q:  Can I see a UMFC provider if UMFC does not contract with my insurance plan?

A:  UMFC providers will be happy to see you regardless of your insurance.  We do ask that you pay for your services at the time of your visit and we will file your insurance for your reimbursement.

Q:  Why am I receiving a bill for an additional amount when I paid my copay at the time of service?

A:  Many times patients have an additional coinsurance or deductible amount that they are responsible for as determined by their insurance company.  You may contact our billing office at 336-299-0012 for further explanation.

Q:  Why am I receiving a bill from Labcorp or Spectrum?  Can I pay this bill to UMFC?

A:  Often times providers order lab tests to better diagnose a problem a patient may be having.  These labs are sent to an outside lab for testing.  The outside lab performs the tests and then generates a bill for the services rendered.  The bill needs to be paid directly to the outside laboratory because the outside laboratory is not linked to UMFC’s billing office.

Q:  I am really sick today and cannot pay my copay.  Why can’t you bill me for my copay?

A:  Based on the contract between you and your insurance company, we are required to collect all copays at the time of service.

Q:  I called UMFC prior to my visit to find out how much my visit would cost.  Why were the charges higher than what I was told?

A:  Your charges are estimated prior to your visit.  Your office visit charge is based on severity, complexity, number of issues and time.  In order for the provider to accurately diagnose your problem additional labs, x-rays, or procedures may have been ordered.  These expenses are separate from the office visit.
